Ingredients
For the Dough
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
For Coating
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Optional Toppings
- Crushed walnuts
- Cocoa powder
- Coconut flakes
- Chocolate sprinkles
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
- Add eggs, melted butter, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll dough into long strips about 1 inch wide.
- Wrap strips around greased rolling-pin handles or metal tubes, slightly overlapping the dough.
- Brush with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar.
- Place on a baking tray so the rolls are suspended and can rotate slightly while baking.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, turning once halfway through, until golden brown.
- Brush with more butter immediately after baking and coat with extra cinnamon sugar or toppings of choice.
